A marginal 3.7 earthquake tremor was reported in the small township of southwestern Victoria, following a more powerful 5.0 quake on Sunday. The official alarm was raised by Vic Emergency for the region encompassing Apollo Bay, pinpointing 1.17pm on Monday as the moment of the earthquake’s occurrence.

While the tremor was reported to have caused minimal to no damage by the emergency body, residents were warned of possible aftershocks. In such an eventuality, the populace is advised to seek immediate safety by dropping to the ground and securing themselves under sturdy furniture. It is also suggested that the concerned residents wait until the shaking ceases completely and stay informed via emergency broadcasts.

Prior to this, the communal tranquility of the tourist towns of Colac was unsettled by the impacts of a 5.0 magnitude earthquake, which struck early on Sunday morning at 2.11am, closely followed by a 3.6 magnitude aftershock at Apollo Bay around 5.44am.

The tremors registered on the consciousness of more than 8300 people, as per data from governmental agency Geoscience Australia. Notably, minor damages were reported by residents in Melbourne.

In response, the Victorian State Emergency Service (SES) received a few calls seeking emergency assistance, although casualties remained nil and damage was reported to be minor.

The tremor that occurred on Monday afternoon represents the third instance of an earthquake impacting the state this month alone, following a relatively minor 3.0 magnitude earthquake at Lakes Entrance, a coastal town in the state’s east region.

Vic Emergency is slated to provide its next update at 8.10pm on Monday. The agency advocates that residents from affected zones, in need of assistance, reach out to the SES at 132 500.
