Quebec Court Judge Pierre Labelle noted how the victim’s life has been affected by what Alexandre Matheussen, 22, of Anjou, did to her after they met through Snapchat in 2021. The judge also said Matheussen’s quick guilty plea to three charges earlier this year was a factor in why he accepted a joint recommendation on the sentence proposed by defence lawyer Michael Morena and prosecutor Jérôme Laflamme this month.
A man who was serving in the Canadian military when he sexually abused a 13-year-old girl in Montreal was sentenced to a 42-month prison term on Monday.

During the same hearing, a victim impact statement was read into the court record. The teenager wrote that she has nightmares, difficulty with relationships and had to move off the island of Montreal because she fears Matheussen. She also believes she contracted a sexually transmittable disease from him.
In May, Matheussen pleaded guilty to sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching and corrupting a minor.
When Laflamme summarized the facts of the case earlier this year, he said Matheussen met the girl through Snapchat, a messaging app where the messages and photos exchanged become inaccessible shortly after they are sent.
Matheussen claimed to be 16 but was actually 19 when he began exchanging messages with the girl. Initially, their messages were not a of sexual nature, but Matheussen eventually asked the girl if she wanted to see his penis and asked her to send photos of herself, but she refused.
Beginning in June 2021, Matheussen and the girl began seeing each other. When they first met, they went for a walk in a park and Matheussen groped her buttocks. Later, when Matheussen tried to kiss the girl, she told him she felt uncomfortable and he drove her home.
Laflamme said Matheussen met with the girl three more times and he even met her mother once for a few minutes when he went to their house to pick up the girl.
At one point Matheussen demanded to have sex with the girl in his car, but she refused. He responded by forcing her to perform fellatio on him.
Matheussen was first arrested by the Montreal police in January 2022 while he was part of Operation Vector, the Canadian Armed Forces’ part in Canada’s vaccination rollout. He was relieved of his duties after the arrest.
Earlier this year, Matheussen was charged with sexual assault at the courthouse in Quebec City. That case returns to court in December.
